Dr. Alejandro A. Gran Scheuch is currently Project Manager at the BiocatCodeExpander consortium. He also works as postdoctoral researcher in the Drienovska Lab at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. His project is focused on ‘Expanding the enzyme universe: a closer look at unnatural amino acids‘ where he investigates a set of unnatural amino acids with high catalytic potential for the generation of sustainable artificial enzymes for new-to-nature biocatalysis. Alejandro obtained his BSc. in biochemistry and MSc in environmental biochemistry from Universidad de Chile. He completed his PhD in Biocatalysis at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and at the University of Groningen (RuG, NL) (Fraaije group). This was followed by postdoctoral research with the Molecular enzymology group (Prof. Marco W. Fraaije, RuG) and with the Chemical Biotechnology group (Prof. Dick B. Janssen, RuG).
